Why combine electrical / power electronics engineering
and tree farming / forest management on a
single web site?
This decision is partially attributable to simple logistics - because
setup and maintenance of a single site gives me more time for other
things. Do engineers and tree farmers ever have too much free
time?
More importantly,
I've found that there are many parallels between engineering and tree farming -
designing experiments, collecting and analyzing a wide variety of data, making
pragmatic trade-offs, managing long-term projects, working within a budget and
under deadlines - and
I hope to eventually be a full-time tree farmer after concluding my engineering
career. For now, electrical / power electronics hardware engineering is my primary
focus and my tree farming work is done mainly during the busy Spring and Autumn
seasons.
The Electrical Engineering / Power Electronics pages basically comprise an expanded
version of my resume, for the benefit of prospective employers and anyone who
wonders what I've been doing since I attained my engineering degree. (FYI - My
diploma is printed on light-brown paper that might appear artificially yellow on
some displays, and age has nothing to do with its appearance!) Although I
currently work full-time, I am available to serve as a professional
consultant in the Minneapolis - Saint Paul metro area.
I always enjoy comparing notes with fellow tree farmers and anyone who
is interested in the larger topic of environmental stewardship. I
hope that the Soldner Tree Farm pages will prove interesting to
experienced forest managers and to those who are just beginning this
very rewarding activity, and perhaps we will have an opportunity to
discuss mutual interests somewhere down the road.
